News from Bude & Launceston District

Bude Explorers off to Irish Centenary Jamboree
Bude Explorer Scout unit have been lucky enough to be accepted to attend the Irish Centenary Jamboree in Punchestown at the beginning of August.

They will be the only unit from Cornwall taking part in the celebrations to mark 100 years of Irish Scouting along with 10,000 other scouts from across Ireland and around the world.

Over the past 6 months we have been busy fundraising to keep the overall cost of the trip down. The generosity of local businesses has been overwhelming and very much appreciated.

We would like to give our sincere thanks to the following businesses and people for all their help: Bott for our polo shirts, Ian Parkinson of Western Power for funding the hire of the trailer, Zuma Jay for funding our pirate neckerchiefs, Bude Rotary Club and the Marhamchurch Revel Committee for their generous donations, Nick Owen of Morrisons for allowing us to do some bag packing for the day, pat Moyse for making our Cornish neckerchiefs, Kay Fyfe (local seamstress) or making our pirate neckerchiefs, Jewels Cross Garage for allowing us the hire of their trailer and Holsworthy College for allowing us the hire of their minibus.

Also many thanks must go to all the people who supported us with out letterbox walk, jumble sales, badge sales, our sponsored walk, the Cornwall Scouting trust for helping out some of our scouts and thanks to the scouts parents for all of their support.

On the 22nd of March members of Bude beavers and Explorers, inlcuding a cub, a few scouts, some parents and other leaders spent the day on Brownsea Island. Two Explorers and a Beaver were invested infront of the scout stone, after which we all headed to the new BP centre where the explorers found their plaque they left there last year. Everyone joined in with the easter egg trail, egg rolling and egg and spoon race. Some of the group bumped into some of Mid Cornwall who were camping there. The weather was pretty chilly but everyone enjoyed themselves and when we reached the main land we had fish and chips for tea.
