CDE08

26th July - 9th August - CDE event - Cornish Danish Exchange - Week Long Camp with Danish Scouts being run by Penwith District and held at St.Ives School.  Camping for first week with Home Hospitality in week two.

Clean Cornwall Project:

PZ/Madron Beavers took part in the "Clean Cornwall" week by taking a stroll around Heamoor village armed with their "Grabbers" and bin bags. They patrolled from the Scout Hall and covered Bolitho Road and Poltair Terrace - up towards Mounts Bay School. Surprisingly enough, a lot of litter was found in this area!!
Well Done Beavers and their Leaders and Helpers - Good Job!
*Note - Penwith Explorers also took part in this project, their "litter pick" was carried out through Morrab Gardens, Penlee Park and across Penzance Prom.
A BIG well done to them also.

Red Bandits Head For Switzerland
Penwith Explorer Unit – The Red Bandits – donned their best winter clothing and headed for the slopes of the Swiss Alps for a weeks stay at the International Scout Centre in Kandersteg. 10 Explorers and 4 Leaders (Including 2 guests from Mid-Cornwall and 1 from Bodmin Districts) spent a fabulous week in the snow during the Easter Holidays.

Everything worked out brilliantly, Kandersteg valley had received a snowstorm that left the area with 3 times as much snow as usual for the time of year, in places, the snow reached up to our waists! We took part in lots of exciting activities including a hike towards the “Gemmi Pass”, igloo building and sledding and then some more relaxed ones such as curling, indoor swimming and a traditional Swiss Sauna. (In the actual sauna that was used at the World Scout Jamboree in Holland)

Our last day took us to the Swiss capital of Bern where we took part in some top retail therapy and also climbed to the top of a Cathedral tower to complete a Geo-Cache. On the last evening, we had time to play some games and meet some older, Network Age Scouts from Germany, which finished our trip with a truly international feel.

Thanks must go to several people for helping to make this trip happen – Alan Cooper, our top personal minibus chauffer, to Faydo Baggins, our Unit travel agent, to Sean Jenkin, our Home Contact, to Grant Kennett our Guest Leader from Mid-Cornwall, to Mark James our guest Leader from Bodmin, to Jenn and Jer, Red Bandits Leaders and to all the Explorers just for being there and for making it such FUN!

First Aid - Leader Training Module 10

A session was held on Sunday 10th February 2008 at 3rd St.Ives (Carbis Bay) Headquarters. Twelve leaders attended and undertook Police Module 2 First Aid Training,  this exceeded the standard required for Module 10 (First Aid) and was organised through Jeremy Rowe.

Police Activity Badge

3rd St Ives/Carbis Bay Scout Group, Penwith & IOS District, have just taken part in a very special activity. The Cubs and Beavers wanted to complete their Police Activity Badge so Alan Cooper (Group Chairman) and the other Leaders got together with the local community Police Officer and came up with a plan.
They agreed to hold a high profile event within Carbis Bay to highlight the speed of vehicles passing through the town. On Tuesday 12th February the Cubs and Beavers operated a mobile speed camera in a bid to catch any speeding motorists. Once caught, they were pulled in, given an interview with a police officer to ask if they would talk with the young people or they could opt for a ticket! They all chose to be interviewed by the Cubs and Beavers but found some of the questions asked very difficult and embarrassing to answer.
As well as all that, the Scout Group had chance to see the inside of the mobile CCTV van and remotely operate some of the towns cameras, they met two of the Counties 4 legged Police Officers from the DOG SQUAD and also had drawing activities as supplied by the Cornwall County Road Safety Team.
The Young People now have several weeks ahead of them to cover the rest of the Activity Badge requirements before they can proudly wear it on their Uniforms. A very well earned award!
