5 - Beaver Scout 'Log Chews'

It is an important part in the development of
children that they are able to have their say,
whether it is at home, school, with their peers
or at after school clubs. No matter what their
age, it is important for them to be heard and
feel they are being listened to. Scouting is one
place where our young Members can speak up
and are actively encouraged to do so, through
forums. As you know, in Beaver Scouts forums
are called ‘Log Chews’.
A Log Chew is an opportunity for Beavers to
talk about all kinds of things, e.g. what they
enjoy most about Beavers, what they would
like to be included in the Beaver Programme,
what they didn’t enjoy, friends, school, anything
that makes them feel able to have a say.
We know that many Leaders hold Log Chews
on a regular basis; some include it as part of
the programme, others do it without realizing it,
perhaps in the form of ‘show and tell’ or
something similar. We would really like you to
share with us and the wider Movement, any
good examples of a Beaver Scout Log Chew
that you have seen or experienced, and why
you feel it works well for those Leaders and
