The Edge Adventure Sponsored by The Eden Project Introduction The Edge Adventure is Cornwall's Countywide Scouting challenge for the 2008, and has been sponsored; and is indeed supported by The Eden Project. This Adventure follows the successful Kernow100 Challenge, in which all members from all sections can become involved, and work together to achieve an objective. The Edge Adventure is designed to work alongside Group Awards, and the new six stage progressive Activity Awards, thus allowing Groups to run this award alongside, or a part of their annual programme. Overall this ensures that work conducted is for a positive reason and encourages all members of the group to work together. Sections, Groups or a District can aim to tackle the award.
The reward to those who achieve the objective, is a unique badge available to be worn on uniform. The badge is the same size as the Kernow100 Challenge, and should replace the Kernow100 badge on the uniform, rather than be added in addition to it. The badge should be worn below the Group Award, and can be worn for twelve months from the date awarded.
To qualify for the award you initally need to notify us of your proposed challenges by e-mailing us direct. These website pages will allow leaders to view details and gain ideas and to use as list of the projects completed. Groups need to update us, as to their progress through the year, and need to notify us upon completion of their challenges. The badges will be posted direct to those who have submitted the feedback form following completion of all the sections of the challenge. Badges are supplied free of charge, but only to Groups registered before 30th April 2008. What is the Edge all about and why should I take part in this badge? The Edge will be a landmark new building at the Eden Project. The building will be a model of cutting-edge architecture and technology, harvesting water and energy from the sun, wind, and rain to show how we all might live in the future.
Our planet is changing, bringing new challenges to the way we live.To adapt we will need the best of our imagination and creativity, our technology and science and our humanity and vision. We will need strong communities and a clear understanding of what is valuable in life.
Scouting is already a strong community but it is important that we all continue to learn about and adapt to our ever, changing environment. As scouts we have an opportunity to work together to make changes and help our communities, this badge is about exploring how we can achieve that.

2008 SCOUT NATIONAL - BRONZE, SILVER & GREEN FOOTPRINT AWARD The Scout Associations Green Footprint Award, is a National Challenge educating young people about climate change. This Award will work in conjunction with the Edge Adventure; as although Certifiactes are available to Groups for completing the Footprint Award, there are no badges to support the programme. The Edge Adventure provides six sections which run alongside and are compatible with the Bronze, Silver and Green Awards; and whilst you need to register seperately (one nationally and one with our county), they can be run simultainously, thus members of your group will be able to wear the Edge Adventure Badge. |
